Lower your premium

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

If you are a driver in the state of Texas, you are well aware of the law that you MUST have a Texas Car Insurance policy on the vehicle you are driving. There are some people who can not afford to carry car insurance on their vehicle. These are the people that make paying Texas car insurance customer’s have to pay so much to keep their vehicle insured. There are several hints you can choose to listen to, to decrease the amount of your monthly Texas Car Insurance policy.

First of all you can raise your deductible. Most people elect to go with a $500 deductible, since this is the amount they will have to pay if something were to happen to their car. If you were to choose a $1,000 your premiums would decrease. Why? Because thats another $500 your Texas Car Insurance company doesn’t have to pay for, and it also shows that you are able to make this payment, and you will be a safer driver so you won’t have to pay that $1000.

Secondly, if possible get insurance for multiple items with the same insurance company. Some car insurance companies in Texas will also offer home owners insurance at a discount to the customer’s that have their automobile policies through them.

You can also enroll and take a driver safety course or defensive driving course to get a discount. Most Texas Car Insurance companies offer disounts for multiple things such as the safety features your car has, your age, how you drive, the distance you drive. These are just naming a few.

Before you call a locksmith

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Did you know that by law in Texas, if you were to lock yourself out of you car and call a locksmith they would be checking your important docutments, such as your drivers lisence, registration, and proof of insurance? Not only does this help identify who you really are to the locksmith, and they are comfortable that the vehicle does in fact belong to you.

Locksmiths are now working hand in hand with area polic officers in making sure driver’s have valid proof that they have Texas Car insurance, a valid drivers license and their registration is current. Let’s say you are at a grocery store with your teenage daughter. The two of you are shopping, talking about your plans for the weekend, check out and pay for your items, get to your car and realize that your keys are locked inside. You decide to call a locksmith and after waiting nearly an hour they show up and park right behind you where you can ‘t get your car out without him moving. The locksmith asks to see your drvier’s license and proof of Texas car insurance. You hand over the requested documents and you watch while he checks your VIN number, the number on your registration and your insurance to make sure they match. If they match its only a matter of time before you are allowed to leave. If everything doesn’t match, or you don’t have current Texas Car Insurance the police will be called, your car will not be unlocked, and you will be fined and have your vehicle towed away.

So make sure you have all your ducks in a row, before you call a locksmith. Just make sure you don’t lock your keys in your car.

Get ahead on your Texas Car Insurance

Monday, January 28th, 2008

2008 will bring lots of new opportunities all together. Some people may want to try a new diet, or kick the bad habit they have, some may want to save enough money for a down payment on a house or car.  Once you have figured out how you are going to tackle your new year’s resolutions there are still some things you can do to save yourself even more money in 2008 with your Texas Car Insurance policy. By simply following the tips given below will give you a better idea on how you can start saving for your future, or the future of your children.

  1. Shop and compare prices for Texas Car Insurance at least once ever six months. Some people save several hundred dollars by switching Texas Car Insurance companies every six months to a year. Obtaining quotes from new potential companies will only take you a few minutes, then you can look back at all the money you saved.
  2. If you know you are a good driver, then select a Texas Car Insurance plan with a higher deductible. Of course, this is the amount you will have to pay out of your own pocket, but if you are a pretty good driver with a clean record, you may not ever have to worry about paying for your deductible.
  3.  Most people pay for their Texas Car Insurance every month, which has added service fees and possibly even a fee for having your statement mailed to you.  Some of these fees can add up to $10 a month, which may not seem like a lot but after 12 months, that’s $120. If you can afford to pay for your auto insurance in 6 month intervals, you can save more money.
  4. Try to receive a discount for insuring more than one thing with the same company. Such as your auto and your home with the same company.
  5. Make sure you are getting the discounts you are supposed to have. For example if you have not had an accident or a ticket in the past 3-5 years, you might qualify for a safe driver discount. Speak with your Texas Car Insurance agent about other discounts that are offered to see if you qualify.
  6. If you to receive a non moving violation from a police officer, you are going to have a fine to pay, but once your Texas Car Insurance company becomes aware of this, your premiums are probably going to rise. This is just another reason why you should start shopping around for a new Texas Car Insurance company.
  7. Some Texas Car Insurance companies offer discounts for the safety features that are equipped on your car. Ask your agent if you qualify for any safe vehicle discounts.
  8. Don’t pay for extra coverage that you don’t need. If you are a member of an auto club, such as AAA, you may not nee to have towing benefits added to your Texas Car Insurance policy.
  9. Make sure you are getting a good student or senior discount if you are eligible.
  10. The less you have to drive the less you will have to pay. Part of your premiums reflects the amount of mileage you drive each year.

Car Insurance Myths Explained

Friday, January 25th, 2008

When people are searching for new Texas Car Insurance, they can sometimes get a little confused about the “lingo” that is used by Texas Car Insurance agents. Some people also misinterpret the meaning of some of the coverages. Read the following myths below and the explanations. Maybe this will better clear the water, when you are needing to search for Texas Car Insurance.

A no fault accident means its not my fault. Not really, this simply means that your Texas Car Insurance company will pay for the damages to your car regardless whose fault the accident is.

If I lend my vehicle to a friend and they wreck my car, their Texas Car Insurance will pay for the damages. No, the vehicles are insured, not the drivers. So if your friend has an accident in your car and it’s his/her fault, YOUR Texas Car Insurance company is going to be held responsible.

The government sets the premiums on Texas Car Insurance. The government doesn’t have anything to do with setting prices. Your monthly premiums are based on your driving record, marital status, gender, age, and credit report.

New cars are automatically covered under Texas Car Insurance. You must contact your Texas Car Insurance company within the specified number of days to have your new vehicle covered under your existing policy. In Texas, you must have at least the minimum required amount of liability insurance, although, cars that you are paying on may require full coverage.

Without comprehensive coverage, you are still covered for theft, vandalism, deer crashes, windstorms, and hail damage. You must have a collision policy to be covered for these things. Comprehensive covers theft, vandalism, windstorms, and hail damage, while collision covers accidents with objects.

Have you been steered wrong?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

If you have ever been involved in an accident or had or vehicle broken into and had to file a claim with your Texas Car Insurance company you may have had the unfortunate experience of being “steered” wrong. When you make a claim your insurance company may try to get you to have your vehicle repaired by a body shop they recommend. If this happens they might also use used parts on your car, or parts from a totally different year and make, just to get the job done. You can also fave long repair times and shady work. What some people don’t realize, though, is they can choose the body shop or dealership of their choice to have the repairs made. Although, you must wait for an insurance adjuster to check out the damages to your car and they will have to meet with whomever is in charge of fixing your car. Make sure you trust the person in charge of fixing your car, because they may have to put their foot down when the car insurance adjuster wants to use old parts to repair or car, or unsafe parts. Unless you watch the repairman fixing your car and watching remove the new parts from the origonal packaging, you will never know what types of parts are going to be used to repair your car. Of course, if approved you could probably fix your car yourself and order new parts, if your Texas Car insurance company would allow that.

The Next Time You Get Pulled Over

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

What is your first reaction when you get pulled over by a police officer? Well…..depending on you react may save yourself the expensive ticket and might be replaced with a written warning, or even a verbal warning. It is important that you remain calm and don’t have an attitude with the attending officer. Make sure you pull over immediately and don’t lead the officer a long distance, since this may irritate him/her and make you start out on the wrong foot. If you are in a remote area, put on your hazard lights to show the officer you are aware they are behind you, but you do not feel comfortable pulling over. You may also be able to use your cell phone to call the police department and have them tell the officer of your plans, they will relay the message.

Once you are pulled over, don’t start rummaging through your car for anything until the officer has requested it. It might be a good idea to put your car in “park”, roll your window down, keep your seat belt on, and keep your hands in plain view. Once the officer approaches your car, and ask for your licence, registration, and proof of insurance, then proceed to getting these documents. Always, keep these documents where you can find them. Spending too much time looking for your license or your insurance card could also irritate the officer and just might want to make him give you a ticket. Use the manners your mama taught you, yes sir, no sir, yes ma’am, and no ma’am.

Remember to use these tactics the next time you are pulled over, and hopefully you won’t receive a ticket. Don’t forget to shop for your Texas Car Insurance periodically to save hundreds of dollars on your insurance.
