How to Protect Yourself
Being involved in an accident is scary, but knowing what to do immediately after an accident is crucial and can save the life of another person involved. Below are a few tips on what to do after an auto accident.
- Stay calm, after an accident. Make sure you don’t argue with the other party, even if you are sure the accident is their fault. Also, don’t discuss the accident with anyone other than the police.
- Get help immediately. Never leave the scene of an accident, if you are involved. If someone is in the need of medical attention, call 9-1-1 and have the operator dispatch someone to the scene.
- Some people carry flares, if you do, set a few off to warn other drivers of the accident scene and to be careful.
- Make sure you write down as much information about the other driver as possible for your Texas Car Insurance company. You should get their name, DOB, driver’s licence number, vehicle type, plate number, VIN number, color, driver’s address, telephone numbers for home and work, the other party’s Texas Car Insurance information, including the policy number.
- Find out if the driver of the other vehicle is the owner or not. If the driver is not the owner, get the owners name address and telephone number.
- Look around if there are any witnesses. If so, get their name telephone number and address. This will help the police determine who is at fault during the investigation.
- Write down the damages occurred to all vehicles involved in the accident.
- Draw out the scene of the accident and make notes about where you were coming from, where you are going, your speed, and so on.
- Contact your Texas Car Insurance company as soon as possible to make a claim.
