Ways to Save on your Texas Insurance

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Does your provide enough saftey for you and your family?  What if your car was stolen, do you have enough saftey features to make your car useless to a theif if he tries to resell your parts? Here are a few tips to help protect your values; including yourself, your family, and your vehicle.

   1.  When searching for Texas Auto Insurance, tell your agent if you have airbags. Most companies will offer you some kind of discount for the different types of saftey features you have. Airbags is one of them. Did you know over 2,000 lives were saved in 2005 just by people having airbags in their cars when they had an accident. Some car compaines have also improved their air bags, especially in the passenger areas. Some car companies have even installed a sensor in the passenger seat the will NOT engage unless the sensor is activated by the weight of someone sitting in that seat.

   2. Having anti-lock brakes could get you another discount on your Texas Insurance Policy. Anti-lock brakes are now being sold in over half of new cars made and nearly ALL small trucks.  This will help you to keep control of your vehicle in the event you must slam on your brakes.

   3.  What kind of seatbelts do you have? In Texas, it is state law that you have to wear your seatbelt when you are in a car. What if you had automatic seatbelts that would strap you in when you closed your car door? Then you wouldn’t have to worry about forgetting to put your seatbelt on, because your car would do it for you.

   4.  Another discount you would be eligible for on your insurance would be if you had an alarm system.  This doesn’t mean the louder alarm you have the more of a discount you will get. No matter how loud or how quite your alarm may be, you will still get the same discount. You can also install alarms on your car if they did not come with one. You would still be eligible for a discount on your insurance.

   5.  Most VIN are on your dashboard, right? That’s supposed to be good enough to identify your car if it gets stolen? Wrong!!! Have you ever thought about getting your VIN etched into the windows of your car, or other valuable places on your car? If your car was stolen, then turned around and the thieves try to resell your parts, they wouldn’t be able to if your VIN was etched on there. This would make it a lot easier for the police to retrieve your car.

If you are shopping around for Texas Car Insurance be sure to tell your agent of ALL the safety features you have. If not you could be wasting money!!!!

It is ILLEGAL to drive without insurance. Did you know if you were pulled over by a police officer and you failed to provide proof on insurance you could receive a $500 fine and up to ONE YEAR in jail? You could also be held reliable for other personal injuries you caused!

Some places around the state are thinking about having a paperless insurance program to check if you have CURRENT insurance when you are pulled over. This program will be able to tell the officer if your insurance is in fact current or expired. Some people pay their premium, wait the month for their insurance card to arrive in the mail, never to make another payment. Most Texas Insurance cards are good for six months. So if you go buy Texas Insurance, pay your premium, but keep your card that is ILLEGAL! Your card may say you have 5 month until expiration, but infact you only paid your first preimum. The officer who has pulled you over will be able to know that you currently do not have insurance. What are you going to do now? Pay the $500 fine, or sit in jail for a year? No, call you Texas Auto Insurance Agent Today!!!!! Don’t wait any longer.
