Safe Driving Tips

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007
  1. Before getting in your car each day or even once a week; walk around your car check your lights to make sure they are functioning properly, check you turn signals, and the fluid levels in your car.
  2. Before you start your car after someone else has driven it, adjust your seat and all your mirrors, so everything fits to you.
  3. Always out on your seat-belt and have your passengers buckle up also.
  4. Its a good idea to drive with your headlights on even during the day, it makes it a lot easier for oncoming traffic to see you from a further distance.
  5. Come to a complete stop at each stop sign. Count to 3 slowly to give yourself and others time to stop. Look in all directions before you drive through the intersection.
  6. When you are at a stop light and the light turns green check all directions before pulling out. You wouldn’t want someone trying to beat the yellow light to hit you as you slowly pull through.
  7. If you are driving on a two lane road that has a parking area on the right hand side try to stay to the center or the road to prohibit another driver from opening their door in front of your car and you hitting it.
  8. Each time you stop for gas check your fluid levels in your car such as: oil, brakes, and transmission fluids.
  9. If you happen to stall your car in the road, do not leave your car there, even if someone tries to talk you into it. Try to safely move your car out of harms away and call for help.
  10. If you are in traffic try to stay at least 3 to 4 seconds behind the car in-front of you. You can check your distance by finding something on the side of the road that is not moving like a street sign or a bridge. When the car ahead of you passes your object cunt to see how many seconds it takes you to pass the object. If it is less then 4 back off or slow down a little bit.
  11. If you see flashing lights from an unmarked police car, do not pull over until you get to a public area or a local police station. If this happens just turn on your hazard lights, slow down, and get to a public place.

Comprehensive Coverage

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Most states do NOT require comprehensive coverage, but as a Texas Car Insurance policy holder it is a very wise decision. Insurance is a very wishy-washy subject for most Texans, meaning that not everyone understands their Texas Car Insurance policy to the fullist. Most of us have insurance, but do we have enough to cover us in a serious accident? What if our car is stolen. vandalized, are parts of our car are stolen? Without Comprehensive coverage you could be looking at paying for most of the damages out of pocket. Comprehensive coverage is not mandatory in many states, but will cover you even if the weather damages your car, for example, hail, flooding, and earthquakes.  In the event your car is stolen your Texas Car Insurance company will only pay you what the car is worth, which may or may not be the dollar amount that you owe. It is important you are covered in all instances.

In’s and Out’s of Texas Liability Insurance

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Most states require that you carry the least minimal insurance, which is Liability Insurance.  This covers you in an at fault accident. Meaning you caused the wreck, and now you are financially responsible to pay for the damages.  If you don’t have much to lose then this is going to be your cheapest way to cover yourself in insurance. On the other hand, if you have alot of assets, you don’t want to lose them in a personal injury court, so you had better get more insurance than just the bare minimum.

Most states don’t require Personal Injury Protection, but it is a good idea to include this to your policy. What this does is cover you and your passengers for medical expenses when you are involved in an accident. Another reason people add this to their policy is because they may not have health insurance on themselves.

What happens if you are involved in a wreck with someone who doesn’t have ANY Texas Car Insurance? When shopping for car insurance, and Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist to your policy. This will cover you if you are involved in a hit-and-run, someone hits you without insurance, or the other party doesn’t have enough insurance to cover everything. It’s better you cover yourself that way you know that know matter what happens you will be covered.

Comprehensive and Collision Insurance is also another great idea to add to your Texas Car Insurance Policy.  Comp Insurance will pay if your car is vandalized, stolen, caught on fire, or hail damage. The collision will cover you in an accident whether it was your fault or not. It will also cover you if you happen to hit an animal.

Don’t scam Texas Insurance Companies

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Need some extra money? Ever thought about leaving the keys in your car in a rough part of town, hoping someone would steal your car. This is against the law and you will be punished. Most Texas Insurance companies call this a “give-up”.  When you give up you car to be sold for parts, or resold to an unknown person, could land you in serious trouble, paying outrageous fines, and jail time.  There are hundreds of these claims each year, and many people are fined lots of money. No matter what you do, always be honest. Trying to fool your Texas Car Insurance may give you money on a fraudulent claim, but you will be paying back your state, as well as, you insurance company. After all the fines are paid, you will still be in the need of extra cash. Back to where you started, and by now you are probably going to need lots of cash. Don’t put your self in this situation.

Do you need to winterize your car in Texas?

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Since the weather in Texas is hardly predictable it is still a good idea to make sure your car is ready for the winter season. One February morning you might wake up and its warm enough to wear shorts and sandals, then next morning you may need long-johns, gloves and a hat to stay warm. This is just one of the many reasons why you need to be prepared in every situation. Just in case you are not sure how to make your vehicle safer in the cold weather here are a few tips that should help you out.

  1. Worn down wiper blades can cause lots of problems. Make sure you replace your blades when they become worn. Also check to make sure your fluid if full and your antifreeze is full.
  2. Have gas in your tank is also important. Remember to keep your tank at least half full to prevent moisture freezing in your gas lines.
  3. Make sure your tires have the correct amount of air. Yu may lose tract due to the cold weather.  Since we live in Texas we don’t get much snow, but if you plan on traveling for the holidays to a place where snow comes in abundance, investing in tire chains might help you out.
  4. Remember to check your car’s battery. Cold air also causes your battery to lose capacity. If your car battery is older than 3 years, have it checked by a technician.
  5. Make sure you keep your cell phone charged, or invest in a car charger. If you have car trouble its easier to sit in your car and be safe then to venture outside against the elements.
  6. Keep a winter emergency kit in the trunk of your car. Fill it with a lighter, candle, flashlight, food, water, ice scraper a change of warm clothes, and a blanket. You might also want to include a First Aide Kit to be on the safe side.
  7. Purchase a De-Ice solution, which can be found at a number or auto and discount stores. Keep in mind if you leave it in your car, and your locks freeze it won’t do you any good.
  8. Check all you car’s lights. If your driving in the snow or in a heavy fog and one or more of your cars lights have burned out, this could cause an accident. Make sure your car stays visible.
  9. What if you have a flat when its cold outside? Do you know where your spare tire is? Do you even have a spare tire or the tools needed. Before venturing out, familiarize yourself with your car. Find your spare, or purchase a new one, make sure you have a jack and the tools to change your tire. Its also a good idea to practice. Pretend you have a flat. Actually change your tire.
  10. Remember, if there is ice on the road it will take you longer to slow down or stop if you have to. Start slowing down ahead of time to prevent accidents. Pay real close attention to intersections. Just because you know it takes longer to stop, doesn’t mean everyone will be paying close attention.

I hope these 10 tips will help you in this crazy Texas weather we have each and every year. Happy Hoilday!!!
