Monday, November 26th, 2007

Most people already know that when they are shopping for Texas Car Insurance they are going to get some kind of discount for one thing or another. Here are a few tips to let you know what they are looking for in their driver’s and how you can make the best out of your discounts.

  1. Are you a great driver? What does your driving record look like? No accidents, lots of accidents, tickets, are they on your record? Have you had any tickets or accidents in the past three years? If not, you might still qualify for a good driver discount. Make sure you ask your agent about this.
  2. Have you taken any driver courses? The course has to be taught by a certified instructor.
  3. Are you still in school? Some Texas Car Insurance companies offer discounts to students who have a grade point average of a “B” or higher.
  4. Where do you go to college? Is your car still at home? Another good discount to offer your college student is this one. The catch is you must attend school more than 100 miles away from home, and your car is still at home.
  5. Have you taken an accident prevention course? Check with your motor vehicle department to see if they offer any types of courses, you could also ask your insurance agent if they grant discounts for these courses.

Hybrid Vehicles

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Are Texas Car Insurance rates cheaper if you own a hybrid vehicle? Some say yes, while others say no. If you are looking into buying a hybrid, it is a good idea to do your homework in finding the best Texas Car Insurance policy that will suit you the best. Some critics are saying that the reason people are finding that hybrid car insurance is cheaper than standard car insurance is because the people now purchasing these hybrid cars have valuable driving records and already have cheap insurance due to this.  No matter what type of car these preferred customers have their insurance rates are going to be lower anyways.

Some insurance companies are also offering discounts to those of us trying to save our world and purchase hybrid cars. These Texas Insurance companies also recognize that this is going to be a group trend, and only the environment worthy people are going to appreciate this.

Depending on your driving record and other risks that you have, will be the ultimate decision in how high or low your insurance premium is actually going to be. Another thing that Texas Insurance Companies will look at is the total cost of repairing or replacing your hybrid car if it was “totaled”. There are many factors to look at when shopping for Texas Car Insurance. Make sure you find the one that BEST fits your needs and gives you the best rates.

Full Coverage

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Does Full Coverage Texas Car Insurance really cover everything? Not usually. Full coverage does not cover wear and tear on your vehicle for example. Here is a list of additives you can add to your policy if they don’t come standard, or a list that might already be included in your Texas Car Insurance policy.

  1. Towing Assistance and Roadside assistance-You can purchase this coverage that will help you if you have a flat tire, run out of gas, or have other mechanic problems on the road 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
  2. Rental-If you wreck your car, or your insured car is in the shop, your Texas Car Insurance will repay you for your rental vehicle.
  3. Medical Payments-This is cover you and your passengers if you have an accident and need medical help.
  4. Third Party-unowned or uninsured vehicles and their passengers
  5. Underinsured-You may have a wreck with someone whose insurance has lower limits than yours, this will help pay for the extra costs.

In order for you to get these coverages you need to ask for a quote for full coverage when searching for Texas Car Insurance. Most people shop for insurance either on the phone, over the Internet, or driving to different agencies. Once you obtain several quotes from different carriers, its important that you go over each policy carfully to make sure you understand each one and also figure out which will save you the most money and cover you the best.

Comprehensive Coverage

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Most states do NOT require comprehensive coverage, but as a Texas Car Insurance policy holder it is a very wise decision. Insurance is a very wishy-washy subject for most Texans, meaning that not everyone understands their Texas Car Insurance policy to the fullist. Most of us have insurance, but do we have enough to cover us in a serious accident? What if our car is stolen. vandalized, are parts of our car are stolen? Without Comprehensive coverage you could be looking at paying for most of the damages out of pocket. Comprehensive coverage is not mandatory in many states, but will cover you even if the weather damages your car, for example, hail, flooding, and earthquakes.  In the event your car is stolen your Texas Car Insurance company will only pay you what the car is worth, which may or may not be the dollar amount that you owe. It is important you are covered in all instances.

Do you need to winterize your car in Texas?

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Since the weather in Texas is hardly predictable it is still a good idea to make sure your car is ready for the winter season. One February morning you might wake up and its warm enough to wear shorts and sandals, then next morning you may need long-johns, gloves and a hat to stay warm. This is just one of the many reasons why you need to be prepared in every situation. Just in case you are not sure how to make your vehicle safer in the cold weather here are a few tips that should help you out.

  1. Worn down wiper blades can cause lots of problems. Make sure you replace your blades when they become worn. Also check to make sure your fluid if full and your antifreeze is full.
  2. Have gas in your tank is also important. Remember to keep your tank at least half full to prevent moisture freezing in your gas lines.
  3. Make sure your tires have the correct amount of air. Yu may lose tract due to the cold weather.  Since we live in Texas we don’t get much snow, but if you plan on traveling for the holidays to a place where snow comes in abundance, investing in tire chains might help you out.
  4. Remember to check your car’s battery. Cold air also causes your battery to lose capacity. If your car battery is older than 3 years, have it checked by a technician.
  5. Make sure you keep your cell phone charged, or invest in a car charger. If you have car trouble its easier to sit in your car and be safe then to venture outside against the elements.
  6. Keep a winter emergency kit in the trunk of your car. Fill it with a lighter, candle, flashlight, food, water, ice scraper a change of warm clothes, and a blanket. You might also want to include a First Aide Kit to be on the safe side.
  7. Purchase a De-Ice solution, which can be found at a number or auto and discount stores. Keep in mind if you leave it in your car, and your locks freeze it won’t do you any good.
  8. Check all you car’s lights. If your driving in the snow or in a heavy fog and one or more of your cars lights have burned out, this could cause an accident. Make sure your car stays visible.
  9. What if you have a flat when its cold outside? Do you know where your spare tire is? Do you even have a spare tire or the tools needed. Before venturing out, familiarize yourself with your car. Find your spare, or purchase a new one, make sure you have a jack and the tools to change your tire. Its also a good idea to practice. Pretend you have a flat. Actually change your tire.
  10. Remember, if there is ice on the road it will take you longer to slow down or stop if you have to. Start slowing down ahead of time to prevent accidents. Pay real close attention to intersections. Just because you know it takes longer to stop, doesn’t mean everyone will be paying close attention.

I hope these 10 tips will help you in this crazy Texas weather we have each and every year. Happy Hoilday!!!

Want Cheaper Insurance?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

When you are shopping for Texas Auto Insurance, be sure you check a few of the smaller companies, as well as the larger companies. The smaller companies may offer more or a larger discount than a well known company for the simple fact that the small company wants YOUR business. Once you have done some research and found which companies offer what discounts and how much the rates are, you will probably find that you will save more money with the smaller company than that company you saw on tv advertising the 40% disocount to new customers. Once you find the Texas Car Insurance company you like, research it. Look online at the Customer Service reviews. Keep in mind, a couple bad reviews can happen even to the top Texas Car Insurance company. Make sure the agent that has been assigned to or that you choose is easy to get ahold of in case of an emergency.  How to you like to pay your bills? The traditional way of buying the stamps and envelopes and sending them through the email? Online Bill payment through the company you choose, or does your bank offer automatic payment for your bills? This might be something else to put into consideration. Which ever Texas Insurance Company you choose to do business with, make sure they put you at a high priority. You want to feel important to them, just as they are important to you. Speak with your Texas Car Insurance Agent today for all your questions and concerns.

Deer and Car Crashes!!

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

November is a busy month for car repairs due to deer migration and mating season. It is very important to watch not only the road in front of you, but also near the road in the ditch, especially if you are driving near dawn or dusk in heavily wooded areas. If you see a deer run out in front of you, slow down, deer travel in groups. When you see one, you will probably see more. Deer may seem skiddish, but when they are used to being around highways and urban city streets, they get used to being around traffic.

If you hit a deer in an older vehicle and only damage a parking light, are you going to claim it on your insurance? Probably not, it would cost you more to file a claim then to to repair the light yourself.  In the past 10-15 years there have been almost 3,000 fatal crashes involving deer. Your local body shop can usually tell when when animal migrating and mating season come into full swing. As the weather turns colder more animals are out and about looking for food and warmth. Some body shop owners say deer damage is not easy to repair, while, others argue that fact. If you hit a deer you may not damage your car that much, but on the other hand, you could seriously damage your car and cost large amounts to fix it.  Another fact about deer, is that they usually train young fawns how to live on their own their first year, but when the doe gets ready to give birth again they push the yearlings out on their own, causing another fisk factor to the drivers. Young deer are not aware of the dangers of traveling near busy highways and country roads. Be sure you are keeping a close eye out during the holiday season as more deer hit the highway.
