Deer and Car Crashes!!
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007November is a busy month for car repairs due to deer migration and mating season. It is very important to watch not only the road in front of you, but also near the road in the ditch, especially if you are driving near dawn or dusk in heavily wooded areas. If you see a deer run out in front of you, slow down, deer travel in groups. When you see one, you will probably see more. Deer may seem skiddish, but when they are used to being around highways and urban city streets, they get used to being around traffic.
If you hit a deer in an older vehicle and only damage a parking light, are you going to claim it on your insurance? Probably not, it would cost you more to file a claim then to to repair the light yourself. In the past 10-15 years there have been almost 3,000 fatal crashes involving deer. Your local body shop can usually tell when when animal migrating and mating season come into full swing. As the weather turns colder more animals are out and about looking for food and warmth. Some body shop owners say deer damage is not easy to repair, while, others argue that fact. If you hit a deer you may not damage your car that much, but on the other hand, you could seriously damage your car and cost large amounts to fix it. Another fact about deer, is that they usually train young fawns how to live on their own their first year, but when the doe gets ready to give birth again they push the yearlings out on their own, causing another fisk factor to the drivers. Young deer are not aware of the dangers of traveling near busy highways and country roads. Be sure you are keeping a close eye out during the holiday season as more deer hit the highway.
