Texas Car Insurance Tips for Accidents
Whether you are a beginer driver or have been driving for years, when and if you have an accident it can be very scary. Listed below are a few tips to use if you are in an accident.
- It is very important that you remain calm.
- Take a moment to make sure you are okay, if you have passengers with you make sure they are fine too.
- If there was another vehicle involved, check to make sure all are okay.
- Call 911 if anyone involved needs emergency medical attention.
- Call 911 for the police to come out.
- Make sure your vehicle is out of the way if it is still driveable, move it to the side of the road so you are not blocking traffic.
- If you are a young driver call your parents.
- Make a note of the police department and ambulance that responds to your call. You should also record the name of the attending officer.
- Write down all the other drivers information. ( Name, address, home phone number, work number, Insurance agent and phone, policy number, vehicle information, year/make/model of car, VIN, effective date of insurance)
- Witnesses play important roles in accidents, get their names, addresses, and phone numbers.
- Do not talk to anyone about the accident unless it is a police officer.
- If you are scared or shaken up and are afraid to drive, call and have someone come and get you.
- Call your insurance claims department.
- It is also a good idea to carry a disposable camera in your glove compartment to take pictures of the accident. Record anything you feel is unusual.
