What to do after an accident

Most of know don’t know what to do at the scene of an accident. We are scared, upset, or even shocked that this has happened to us. The important thing is to stay calm and try not to overreact. Knowing what steps to take prior to ever having an accident, will at least, hopefully, keep your mind clear so you don’t make any mistakes.

  1. Stop your car, if you don’t you will, more than likely, be charged with a HIt and Run and have major fines and or possibly jail time to look forward to.
  2. Make sure everyone involved is okay. If someone is hurt call 911 immediatly. If no one is hurt and there is not much damage done to any vehicle call the local police department and ask for instructions on what you and the other involved need to do.
  3. Turn on your vehicles hazard lights and move the vehicles to the side of the road if its possible. Try not to block traffic.
  4. Write down all the information about the other vehicle. Name of driver,year/make/model of car, license plate number, driver license number, DOB, driver address and telphone numbers (work and home), Texas Car Insurance information, location of accident, local law enforcement names, any other pertinent information you can think of.
  5. Get contact information for everyone involved and any witnesses that saw exactly what happened.
  6. Write down for your information the details of the accident. Keep for your records, will will need this when you make a claim on your Texas Car Insurance.
  7. Once you calm down, get medical attention if needed, call your Texas Auto Insurance company and ask for instructions of how to report a claim.
